 Cathedral Of Mexico

Cathedral Of Mexico.
The cathedral of Mexico is a synthesis of the art of the New Spain: heiress of the Greater Temple of Tenochitlán, the medieval cathedral tradition and the colonial devotions. Like part of the Socle, the cathedral is symbolic and cosmic center, around which the daily life of the Mexican large city is developed. After its imposing neoclassic facade baroque and light floods, is penetrated to the penumbra of the sacred space, with its five ships, chapels, altarpieces and paintings. They emphasize the lateral altar of the Pardon, chapels, sacristy and the magnificent altarpiece of the Kings. During some ceremonies the music of one of the monumental organs can be listened to. After more than four centuries the altered subsoil of the city has caused the collapse of many buildings like the cathedral. The works of rescue, visible partly, have avoided their collapse.

The cathedral project journeyed by the three centuries I novate Hispanic compiling artistic styles, fetuses devotions of all nature, ceremonies and marked the rate of the life in the colonial city with its ample repertoire of I touch of bell. It is for that reason that the cathedral is not only a remarkable architectonic work, since throughout its history has fungido like social center, refuge of pecadores, triumph of the secular clergy, makes a torch of revolts, crypt of rest and visible center of a nation. Initiate in 1572 with Latin cross plant, three lateral ships and chapels, has blacksmith, baroque and neoclassic elements. In its depths the sanctity, accompanied by the magnificent fluted columns also resides that are raised to the sky and return to the Earth in an infinite movement. The greater altarpiece is like a celestial grotto imagined by Hieronymite of Balbás in 1673 with the metallic contributions of the inhabitants of the New Spain. Its great weight (that has defended it of the tremors) favors the underlying collapse that are unequal due to the differences between the old small barren island and lands of filling, Hispanic structures and the water extraction in all the city. The set is being renivelado by a portentous concrete system of engineering of piles of and the subexcabación in certain zones.
