 HOUSE OF THE CASCADE

HOUSE OF THE CASCADE. The project of the Broadacre City represents the maturity in the architectonic thought of Frank Lloyd Wright. But the last symbol of the search of its organic architecture is the Kaufmann House. In 1936, Wright constructs the Edgar Kaufmann House in Bear Run. The house rises next to rocks and the sound of the water of the small cascade of a stream. Its ceiling is bathed directly by the light of the sun that is strained between the glasses of trees that surround them by their flanks. The house thus located seems a brightness of the own natural. In this construction, Wright perfected the use of the materials, the integration of volumes of the near space of the house with the deep space of the nature. The Kaufmann house was formed, since then, in main the referring one, the clearest and immediate example of the sense of all the architecture of F.L. Wright.

Praised by its conception, the Kaufmann house is the symbol of an architectonic style that still today is defended by many thinkers and architects. The proposal of the organic architecture of Wright, its rejection of metropolis urban modern, did not consist of the simple idealization of the contact with the nature and the proclamation from a necessary return to the field. What it was tried was, in fact, that the human construction occupied a decentralized territory. One looked for that the industry, the technique, the machines, the houses, was surrounded by great natural spaces. This would allow that the city did not suffocate in itself. In this sense, they aimed already mentioned Praire Houses and the topic project of the Broadacre City. The impossibility to make its great project of an "organic city" caused that Wright had to be contented with a single construction like clear and finished symbol of all the sense of his search. For that reason, the Kaufmann house, with its perfect balance between the human construction and its natural surroundings, is the last symbol of an architecture pawned on crystallizing a harmony dialogue, and not of violence, with the nature.
